A Special Interest Chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management

The New Year is off and running and I am so excited to continue to be a part of the Staffing Management Association of Southern New England (SMASONEW.org). As SMA's President, I have seen a diverse group of recruiting professionals get the advice and training they need to meet the goals of their organizations. As one member shared with me, "it is nice to not have to reinvent the wheel all the time".

Whether you need help getting your company into the social media age or you need to brush up on your counter-offer skills, SMA provides the seminars and networking events to help. SMA's members are invited to participate in programs designed to keep them updated and informed. When you come to a SMA meeting you have an opportunity to share best practices for this changing employment environment and learn from professionals in similar situations.

2013 is bringing many changes and challenges, as well as a few surprises. For instance, did you know that according to a 2012 National Association of Colleges and Employers report (NACE), recent college graduates rank health insurance fourth in importance when considering a job offer? Higher ranking benefits include annual salary increases, 401(k) company match, and tuition reimbursement. However, when Human Resources Managers were asked which benefit offerings will increase in importance when recruiting over the next three to five years, health care was ranked #1. Don't get caught using outdated recruiting information. SMA will give you the up to date information you need to recruit the best candidates available.

SMA is proudly affiliated with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and offers professional development opportunities for HR and Recruiting professionals. Whether you are in a staffing function or a generalist looking to learn more about recruiting best practices, we hope you will join us.

If you'd like to be added to our mailing list, please forward your name and email address to info@smasonew.org.

The board and I look forward to meeting you at an upcoming event, www.smasonew.org for dates and times.
